Career started as non-IT

When I graduated from high-school, I had a university I wanted to go at any cost and took the entrance examination four times in a row spending 3 more years.
In the first year, I tried hard on my study and part-time work and my score seemed going up, but after the second year, it ended on a downward curve.
I was too arrogant especially in my teenage and twenties so that I had been too stubborn for I was embarrassed of myself in a position not superior than the others. That is why I spend years trying to enter one university.
After all, maybe I didn’t care which university to go as long as it’s better than the others. I felt I could never beat the people of the same age in terms of successfulness, and with that not-very constructive reason, I decided to start a full-time work.

Then I did jobs that nobody would complain as long as my result is good, such as salesperson at a children’s English class and telephone sales at a members-only travel agency. I did not enjoy working there at all. Rather, I had uneasiness feeling like I was deceiving people.

I was immature and did not have good skills or knowledge to make complaints about my job, but I also felt that keeping these jobs will not give me good experience that will open my future, and that I want skills that will make a good living even if my company goes broke. These thoughts made me decide to change my job and to work in the IT industry.

Moving into IT industry

IT industry is one that is rapidly changing. Tools and technologies that are thought to be new could easily become obsolete by later innovations. Therefore, your market value would easily go down unless you update yourself with the latest information day by day.

Thankfully, since I started working in an IT company that provides clients with human resources, I had chances to learn various technologies on various clients’ sites. I have experienced widely from system construction processes to operations afterwards, such as preparing servers, rack mounting in a data center, connecting network equipment, OS installation, middleware setting, and image-based backup. I had also participated in selecting asset management tools, anti-virus software, and monitoring software. In the process, I have acquired ITIL knowledge, which is the framework for IT management services, and server virtualization skills from the fundamental level. This experience has been quite helpful up to today, even in this rapidly changing industry.

After a while and when I was about to turn 30, I decided to change my circumstances and start another job. The reason was that it became hard to tell what I was working for because I felt my job was somebody else’s as a result of repeated work on clients’ sites. I wanted to do more responsible work to produce in-house services, and I wanted to see how far I can go in that circumstance. I was surprised at myself seeking for new job with much more constructive reason, comparing to the time I just wanted skills.

Joining Colorkrew

In my early time at Colorkrew, I took part in the server construction, operation and maintenance for game and entertainment industry clients.
The work I have experienced in the former job was one for large companies that requires numbers of testing, reports, briefings, and many approvals just to start the installation process.
Contrarily, game and entertainment industry companies are often venture companies with much more easier processes to install new tools if they see the tools are good. I guess that’s partially why their cloud installation was that early.
At first, I was not used to the speed of their business and sometimes showed poor performance to finish the work just by the deadline.
Now, however, I enjoy the rapidness of my work with much more responsibility not only for the procedures but also in respect of the figures of my projects.

My present and future

My present role is to promote digital transformation in the clients’ business through cloud environmental design, technical advisory, and presales.
I feel accomplished by my work to support clients’ business through utilizing the cloud technologies and providing consultations based on my practical experience. I also had some chances to attend global conferences held by public cloud such as by AWS re:Invent in 2017 and Microsoft Build in 2018.

I could have never imagined of these opportunities when I started working in this field. Life is exciting.

I believe my mission here in Colorkrew is to utilize cloud technology in order to support the vision of “make the world’s work fun”.

Colorkrew took a new step forward on its 20th anniversary. How can we appeal our presence in this global competition? I can’t help feeling excited.
